An Enriching Program
"I am excited to further experience the benefits of what Kumon gave me."
- 5 years old (Grade 1)
I started Kumon Math at a low level. Because of this, the simple exercises and problems gave me an impression that the whole program was ridiculously easy. Looking back, I can’t believe how wrong I was!
I also agreed to enroll in Kumon Reading which I thought would be easier and more bearable than math. As I progressed throughout the levels, my activities outside Kumon began to consume my time. Apart from this, my Kumon worksheets were getting harder and my backlogs were piling up. This even led me to the point when I wanted to quit the Math Program. Fortunately, my progress in the Reading Program was a bit faster, as reading is something that I love doing.
The routine continued for years: going to my Kumon center once or twice a week, and taking home a few worksheets. My Kumon homework was often placed at the bottom of my to-do list and because of this, it took me a longer time to finish a level, thus, diminishing my motivation. But then I noticed that my grades in school also started to become mediocre. This is when I then realized the importance of rediscovering my commitment to do my Kumon worksheets.
Kumon has been helpful in developing my school habits. So when my Kumon center moved to another location, I saw it as a chance for a fresh start. I started finishing all my Kumon homework on time again, and finally, I finished level L (figurative language, interpretation and critical writing), the last level in Kumon Reading. All of these paid off, because not only did I get a good score in the Kumon Reading Completers’ test, my grades in school also improved.
I am excited to further experience the benefits of what Kumon gave me, not only in academics, but in life in general. Looking again at that low starting point, I now see it not as an easy set of exercises, but rather, as the beginning of an enriching program.
